Your offset will be sequestered through reforestation of degraded slopes in the Sierra Gorda Biosphere Reserve.  As the trees grow they sequester carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and convert it into the carbon in their leaves, branches, trunk and roots.  Approximately half of this biomass is carbon.  We used locally-generated growth models to predict how much biomass will accumulate in each growing reforestation and thus how much carbon it will sequester over a 30 year period.   Each year landowners carry out a self-inspection measuring a sample of their growing trees, and every five years Bosque Sustentable will carry out a detailed monitoring to ensure that each reforestation is sequestering carbon according to our projections.  For more information please see our monitoring protocol.
