How does a carbon offset work?

Carbon is measurable in tons, pounds and kilograms. 1 tonne = 2200 lbs. or 1000 kgs. 

Our calculator will measure the tons of carbon in equivalent tons of your carbon footprint. The purchase of a Carbon Offset is a statement that you intend to balance the unavoidable carbon emissions from your household, your business or your event.                     

Driving a car, flying on a plane, hosting and attending a wedding, a meeting or event,  even running a city, state or business all produce carbon emissions and all can calculate how many tons of carbon they generate.  By investing in  projects that capture and store carbon equivalent to the tons of CO2 calculated in the footprint  is called  carbon offsetting, and is a way to reduce your carbon ‘footprint’ and become carbon neutral.

Carbon offsets are for people who think about how the actions they take make a difference in the long and short term conditions that make our planet inhabitable. 

CarbonNeutralPlanet offers forest carbon and your carbon offset is a tax deductible donation to:

• Work with private landowners within the Sierra Gorda Biosphere Reserve to reforest their degraded lands with native trees.
• Pay experienced forestry technicians to  accompany the landowners every step of the way, providing technical training and expertise, and ensuring successful reforestations that meet carbon sequestration requirements.
• Compensate landowners for planting and caring for trees, and managing their reforestations for optimum growth and carbon sequestration.  The reforestation project creates a sustainable land use alternative, providing much needed additional income to residents of the Reserve, reducing, and eventually eliminating the need for traditional agriculture and grazing on the steep slopes of the Sierra Gorda which causes severe erosion and soil loss, and leads to watershed degradation. 
• Sustain biodiversity in the Sierra Gorda Biosphere Reserve's million acres by funding sustainable activities for its 100,000 residents that both further conservation and combat rural poverty.
