Wild Mountains of Mexico  - Take a trip that has more to offer: Nature, friendly local people, savory local cuisine, and the inspiration to keep fighting for a healthy Mother Earth.

Viva Sierra Gorda invites you to spend July in Sierra Gorda. Live the experience of a Biosphere Reserve in the wild mountains of central Mexico, 6 hours north of Mexico City. Support the work by participating in the grassroots movement to save the biosphere.  Sierra Gorda Ecotours, located next to a global priority wetland (Jalpan Reservoir, RAMSAR) in the heart of the Sierra Gorda region, leads trips through the Sierra Gorda Biosphere. Tours include meeting local artisans, experiencing natural and cultural sites and staying in comfortable, high-quality community-based eco-lodges.  We offer a fieldtrip or presentation on the region and the 23 year local movement for change and conservation.

Rural tourism and ecotourism in the Sierra Gorda Biosphere Reserve are different than most routes. The northern part of Querétaro is a majestic landscape of the natural history of megadiverse Mexico.  Why is  Sierra Gorda considered a model Biosphere Reserve?  More than half of the resident population participates directly in the restoration, education, conservation and sanitation of the communities and wildlands.  Take a trip that has more to offer: Nature, friendly local people, savory local cuisine, and the inspiration to keep fighting for a healthy Mother Earth.

When is the best time of year? A favorite time of year, July to October, is the rainy season which is exuberant, hot and cool rivers, and the weather can be unpredictable. June through August benefit from the harvest of fruits produced regionally: mango, liches, apple, pears, peaches and more.  October through March is somewhat humid, very green and cooler, with the colors of autumn through to the intense colors of new leaves. April through June is beautiful and temperate to hot weather, with lots of tourism destinations to visit that are accessible in drier conditions.
